When you see the commercials on TV, you’ll see one for a drug that they call ‘The Headache Medication’. They make headaches sound like they are a regular part of life. Well, headaches are certainly not regular, but they are definitely common! Globally, about 40% of people live with a headache disorder, and on any given day, about one in six people have some kind of headache! It’s more common in women than men, and migraines alone affect a massive slice of the population. Migraines are the second most significant cause of disability among women. It’s good to know that any headache is not typical, but rather a sign from your body that something needs attention.
Not all headaches are the same, and they have different causes. That’s why so many treatments fail. You need to identify the root cause. The biggest category of headache is the tension headache. It feels like a tight pressure band around your head. Migraines are distinct and characterized by throbbing pain, often accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound. Sometimes, they cause temporary loss of vision. Some secondary causes of headaches may include sinus infections, dehydration, and side effects from certain medications. A prevalent cause is neck and upper back problems. High stress levels and poor sleep are some of the most common causes of postural strain that bring people to our office. If you’re looking at your cell phone or computer monitor right now, your head is probably in a slightly forward position. Take a look at this webpage, and you’ll find a video that demonstrates how to relieve stress in your head and neck. This may help alleviate your symptoms at the moment.
What’s the problem with just taking Advil or Tylenol? Pain relievers may provide short-term relief, but they are a terrible idea for regular use. Overusing any medication, even over-the-counter ones, can lead to a rebound headache. Otherwise known as quote medication overuse headache, UN quote, and every drug has a side effect. And says it commonly causes stomach bleeding, and there is an increased heart attack and stroke, particularly with certain conditions. And the cedar management can harm your liver if you take too much. They didn’t really tell you that in those commercials. Our goal is to restore your health naturally, using a drug-free approach.

How We Treat Headaches In Peoria, AZ
Comprehensive Consultation and Exam
Before we begin care, we need to understand the root of the problem. As you may know, simply treating the symptoms does nothing to address the cause. Here is our plan: We begin with a detailed history and a computerized postural exam, followed by orthopedic testing. X-rays may be performed. We don’t like guesswork. We assume that you don’t either. Treatment may include gentle, specific, and targeted spinal adjustments, gentle manual muscle mobility and strength exercises, stress reduction strategies, and nutritional coaching. Additional therapies may consist of FX405 laser therapy, PEMF therapy, Erchonia cold laser therapy, or shockwave therapy. This all depends on what the doctor finds during your first visit.
Digital X-rays
Much like you would not expect a dentist to start drilling on your teeth without an X-ray, our office uses this outstanding technology of digital X-ray to help us isolate the underlying cause of your headaches. Our office utilizes a high-frequency X-ray unit with digital X-ray capabilities and collimation to provide the safest and most precise results available.
There is a small area in your neck that is a common source of headaches. We may perform a few X-rays to determine if this is the underlying cause of your headaches. Without these specialized views, the underlying cause of your headaches may not be addressed, and you will continue to suffer. None of us wants this! Greater specificity yields better results for you.
Specific Chiropractic Care in Peoria, AZ
When a joint line in your spine may interfere with the information passing through that nerve, this doesn’t even have to hurt. It may have hurt you when you had your initial fall or trauma, which could be so long ago that it happened in your childhood. However, your body remained misaligned in that area of your spine and has continued to contribute to tightness, muscle tension, scar tissue, and eventually, your headache.
For your best results, the doctors need to see precisely how you are misaligned in your spine. We show you the problem on the X-ray, and then comes the solution. We remove that nerve pressure with a targeted spinal adjustment in the proper direction, at the right time, and with just the right gentle touch. Our doctors are specifically trained and board-certified in their respective specialties. The more specific the adjustment, the better the results you get.
FX405 Laser Therapy
One of our favorite therapies in the office is her Erchonia FX-405 laser. Cold laser therapy has been in use for decades. The latest advancements in research have led to the development of this specific laser. A rapid healer, it has become one of the most popular therapies in our office.
Safe and effective, this laser is the most advanced non-thermal laser available. It combines red and violet lasers that help your body reduce inflammation and pain through a photochemical reaction. It does not cause heat, so it is entirely safe to use over the head and neck. It is FDA-cleared for full-body use to relieve non-thermal pain and inflammation.
Spinal Decompression Therapy
There are seven neck bones, and your skull rests on top of the first one. There are spinal discs that rest between the bones. They act like little cushions or pillows. This allows our neck joints and head to move freely. However, these discs can sometimes become thin, dry, crack, or split, allowing the gel that should be in the center to push out against a nerve or the spinal cord. This can cause headaches.
Spinal decompression therapy works to gently open the space between those neck bones where the disc is being irritated and pressing against the nerves. Spinal decompression helps to relieve that choked nerve and heal the spine. That will reduce irritation to the neck and nerves that supply the head, which can contribute to your headaches. Spinal decompression is a safe, proven-effective way to relieve the nerve pressure that can cause headaches.
Nutritional Supplementation
Low magnesium is tied to increased migraine frequency and tension headaches. Three of the most essential nutrients for people who struggle with headaches and migraines are magnesium, omega-3 fatty acids, and BCM-95. The majority of Americans are deficient in magnesium. Magnesium helps muscles relax, supports healthy nerve function, and calms overactive pain pathways in the brain. The Standard American Diet (SAD) is woefully deficient in magnesium. If you’re eating processed foods, consuming caffeine, and have high stress, consider a quality magnesium supplement. There are many different types of magnesium, so be sure to consult with your doctor in our office to determine what is right for you. Our office has many kinds available. But there is only one magnesium that has been proven to cross the blood-brain barrier, making it more effective for headaches.
Omega-3 fatty acids are found in cold-water fish and quality fish oil supplements. There are other available sources, but these are the best. They have potent anti-inflammatory effects that benefit the brain and blood vessels, as they help balance your body’s inflammatory response and improve circulation. That can prevent the constriction and dilation patterns that often trigger a migraine headache. Be sure to choose a high-quality fish oil, as lower-priced products usually contain undesirable ingredients that can cause inflammation.
BCM-95 is a form of curcumin, which is the active compound in turmeric. Studies show that it can help reduce the severity and duration of migraines due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. The bioavailability of BCM-95 is superior to that of standard curcumin. We have some favorite brands in our office. Taken together with omega-3 fatty acids and magnesium, this offers considerable hope for treating migraine symptoms while actively working in our office to correct the underlying cause.
Common Types of Headaches We Treat in Peoria, AZ
Tension Headache
Tension headaches are the most common type of headache, characterized by a tight, squeezing pressure around the forehead, the back of the head, and the neck. Picture a tight headband being squeezed around your skull. They usually develop slowly, but can persist for hours or days if the root cause is not addressed. They can be worse after sitting at your desk or driving.
The primary cause is typically nerve irritation, which leads to muscle tension, poor posture, and spinal misalignments. This strains the nerves and the muscles of your neck and shoulders. Then – boom – a headache! Our office utilizes gentle adjustments as the core solution. Still, you may also benefit from cold laser therapy to reduce inflammation, shockwave therapy to alleviate muscle strain and tension, and PEMF to loosen tight areas and promote internal healing. Your care will be tailored to your specific needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can chiropractic care truly alleviate headaches?
Yes. Many headaches start from tension and misalignment in the neck. Chiropractic adjustments and our advanced therapies relieve that pressure naturally without relying on medications.
What is the difference between a migraine and a tension headache?
Tension headaches feel like a tight band around your head, while migraines are usually located on one side, throbbing, and may cause nausea and sensitivity to light. Chiropractic care helps both by reducing nerve irritation and muscle tension in the neck and skull region.
Why not just take Tylenol or Advil?
Pain relievers may temporarily mask the symptoms, but they do not address the underlying cause. Chiropractic care addresses the root cause, enabling you to achieve lasting relief without the rebound headaches that can occur with medication.
I’ve had headaches for years. Am I stuck with them?
Not at all. Once the underlying cause is identified, we can help correct it and let your body heal naturally. Posture, stress, past injuries, and dietary habits will be addressed, allowing you to recover and alleviate your headaches.
Is chiropractic safe for migraine sufferers?
Yes. Our adjustments are gentle, precise, and specifically tailored to your own spine. They help calm your nervous system stress and reduce migraine frequency more safely with no side effects like medications have.
How many visits will it take to feel better?
Some patients experience improvement within a few visits, while others require a few weeks of consistent care. Working together with you, we aim to correct the underlying causes. This may include diet recommendations and other lifestyle modifications.
What makes Arizona Chiropractic Center different?
We don’t guess. We test. History, examinations, and X-rays shine a light on the underlying problem. Then, thorough treatment options, including specific adjustments, cold laser therapy, PEMF, and shockwave therapy, all help address the causes of your headaches to help you heal naturally.
