Hip pain is such a pain in the… well, you know.
The hip is usually a very stable joint. It supports a large percentage of your body weight and can withstand significant abuse. This ball and socket joint, when it is working properly, is amazingly stable and allows you to run, jump, play pickleball, tennis, volleyball, whatever you want! But when you have things go sideways, that hip can take you out of your game.
The result can be a labrum tear, bursitis, or arthritis. It may be a strain or even a sprain. Even if your hip degenerates to the point where you have some of the more serious conditions mentioned above, you still may be able to get help without any surgical involvement. Keep reading to find out how our office helps resolve hip problems.

How We Treat Hip Pain In Peoria, AZ
Our office is unique, and we feel fortunate to have multiple options to help reduce your pain and inflammation and increase your range of motion. Like you, we prefer healing over simply treating the symptoms.
Comprehensive Consultation and Exam
The first step is to find out what is causing you to suffer like this. The doctors at Arizona Chiropractic Center will take the time to determine the underlying cause of your suffering. Then we will determine what steps are necessary to get you back on track. Step one is a detailed history and consultation. This will be followed by a postural exam, a neurological evaluation, and a symmetry test to assess your body’s balance when standing upright. Digital X-rays remove guesswork. If you need an MRI, we can handle the referral as well.
Specific Chiropractic Care in Peoria, AZ
Everybody’s problem is unique. Your underlying hip problem may be completely different than your next-door neighbor’s hip problem. You might require two completely different treatments. Rest assured that if you need a hip adjustment, a spine adjustment, or any other therapy, it will be tailored to your specific needs. And if your hip cannot be manually adjusted (which does happen), our safe and effective, hands-off, gentle/passive therapies may be used.
Digital X-rays
Before the home builder even lays the foundation of the house, he has a blueprint. The same goes for the dentist – he doesn’t just start drilling without an X-ray.
Knowing the alignment – misalignment – of the structure of your pelvis is vital to the success of your treatment here in our office. The hip itself is usually not the only issue. It may be the only part causing you pain or discomfort, but there is almost always a contributing factor that needs to be addressed. This is one thing that makes our office unique. We take a broader view of what is causing you discomfort to achieve the best possible results. It sure makes sense to address all of the underlying problems that have gotten you into this position!
When we take X-rays, we do a specific analysis of the pelvis, hip, lumbar spine, and posture. Imagine having a bad foundation for so long, and finally, you wear yourself out. It would be bad for your house to have a bad foundation, and it is certainly bad for your body to have a bad foundation. Let’s get to the root of it.
Your healing depends on addressing all the underlying factors.
So now we know that we have first to see the problem. The X-rays reveal the underlying misalignment and joint damage. The posture exam and orthopedic tests help determine the stability of the hip joints. A symmetry weight-bearing test guides us to other possible causes of your problem. Often, an undiagnosed problem in a different area of your skeleton can affect your hip. We will get that figured out and dialed in as well!
Custom Therapeutic Exercise Plan
There are some simple stretches that you can perform at home in bed.
Each of these stretches addresses a major hip muscle group. They can be very relieving! Often, this will offer some relief and buy you some time, but we do not suggest waiting too long to receive proper treatment. As you have found out by now, you may have waited too long, and now you are in pain. It’s better to address this hip problem sooner rather than later so that you don’t need more aggressive treatments that may be required if you wait too long. Hip replacements are sometimes necessary, but we all want to keep our original parts! Feel free to call our office to get started on your healing process.
FX 405 Cold Laser Therapy
A patient favorite is the FDA-cleared FX 405 cold laser.
It is a non-thermal healing laser. No cutting. This laser creates no heat. It is therefore completely safe with NO side effects.
This laser uses your body’s own physiology to speed your healing. Using this laser, we typically have you lie on your side on a comfortable massage table, and the three rotating heads of the laser ‘soak’ the front, back, and side of your hip in red and violet healing laser light. So nice!
Our office is one of the original offices in Arizona to offer cold laser therapy. We have successfully used cold laser therapy on over 10,000 patients. We have extensive experience treating hip problems.
PEMF Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field therapy
Your hip is deep inside your pelvis. When you want to heal your hip, it can be very challenging to get proper nutrition into the ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joint of the hip. This is where PEMF therapy really shines. This highly effective therapy transmits an electromagnetic wave that safely passes into your hip.
This signal is not electrical. It is electromagnetic. There is no electrical signal going into you. When these electromagnetic pulsed waves pass through your hip, the PEMF opens up, or dilates, the blood vessels. This will increase the blood flow deep into the hip joint. This provides your muscles, ligaments, bones, cartilage, and labrum with as much oxygen and nutrition as your hip needs to heal. We want to ensure your body receives the nutrients it needs to heal. This greatly increases your likelihood of success.
Our office only utilizes the PMT120 PEMF units. These are the strongest, variable-intensity units available. They are the ‘tip of the spear’ units, professional-grade. As a leader in the worldwide PEMF community, these units allow for shorter treatment times. Typically, they last 15-20 minutes. PEMF, along with any other doctor-recommended therapies, is an important factor in your successful return to a healthy lifestyle.
Shockwave Therapy
When you were young, your hips moved so normally that you didn’t even think about it. You just ran and played! But then you might have sat too long at a desk. Maybe you fell off your bike as a kid? Did you play any sports in high school? Maybe you simply tripped and fell on it. Regardless, we all go through traumas. We forget almost all of them. Only the truly memorable ones get committed to memory- and usually that provides a good story to tell the kids in the later years!
But time goes on after these original falls, traumas, injuries, or chronic conditions, such as sitting at a desk. Then your body creates muscle tension. Eventually, the muscle tension becomes tougher and fibrous. And eventually that may lead to arthritis. Can you do anything at this point? Yes!
Shockwave therapy does not create a shock. There’s no electricity. It is a sound wave that passes up to 55 mm deep into your hip joint. This non-thermal sound wave helps loosen tight muscles and “stuck” spots. This will improve the hip joint motion and help the joint heal more quickly. This particular therapy is one of our patients’ favorite therapies. It feels amazing and reaches into areas that are just not possible without using this therapy. Sessions are typically spaced one week apart and usually require 6 to 8 sessions. It really depends on what your doctor uncovers on day one and recommends in your report of findings.
Common Causes of Hip Pain in Peoria, AZ
Hip pain may appear in your groin, thigh, hip, or buttocks. It is often stiff, and you can’t move or walk very well. It may even make clicking and popping sounds. It often hurts during sleep, sitting, or exercise. It can cause you to limp while simply walking. If you find yourself shuffling and unable to take a long stride, your hip is likely causing the symptoms!
Muscle Strain
Muscle strains and bursitis are some of the most common underlying causes of people’s hip pain. might you have degenerative arthritis? Or it could be the result of ‘IT band’ syndrome? Don’t just treat the symptoms. Don’t just stop there. Together, we will dig deeper. We want to know! What is causing the muscle strain or bursitis? Why did you create IT band syndrome? We want to fix these problems and heal you so that you can get back to living your best life, but we also want to address the underlying cause so you won’t have to repeat this whole process in another six months! If we can find the underlying cause and stop it, then this hip pain will be nothing but a memory. Yay!

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a chiropractor help my hip pain, or do I need an orthopedist?
A board-certified chiropractic physician will have the proper education and training to help treat hip pain without drugs and surgery.
Is my hip pain from my hip, my back, my SI joint, or something else?
Many hip symptoms have multiple underlying causes. A proper examination and X-ray imaging can help determine the actual cause of your hip pain.
How does a Chiropractor figure out what’s wrong on my first visit?
A detailed consultation, history, examination, x-ray imaging, postural exam, and neurological and orthopedic testing provide a great deal of information that a doctor needs to treat your hip problem properly.
Will a chiropractic adjustment hurt my already painful hip?
Sometimes an adjustment may cause discomfort, but there should be no pain involved. Chiropractors are trained to know when and when not to perform a joint adjustment.
I have osteoporosis. Can I still get treatment from a chiropractor?
Bone density problems, such as osteoporosis and osteopenia, can affect the effectiveness of any potential chiropractic treatment. Adjustments and/or therapies will be safely modified or changed based on the severity of the osteoporosis diagnosis.
What therapies do chiropractors use to treat hip pain, and how do they decide which ones to use?
Therapies vary greatly among physicians’ offices. Regardless of the therapies offered, it is always advisable to assess the safety and effectiveness of each. Some therapies are more effective than others.
Can hip pain be treated if I have arthritis, bursitis, a labral tear, or a ‘bone-on-bone’ hip?
The level of treatment and therapies will be specifically determined based on the patient’s needs. Less damaged typically requires less intensive care. If your problem cannot be treated naturally, you will be referred to a qualified orthopedist.
I’ve done physical therapy, injections, and massage, and it still didn’t work.
Experience plus the proper tools makes a world of difference. Be sure your doctor can address the underlying reasons for your suffering. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.
What does this treatment cost? Does insurance cover it?
While most insurance companies cover adjustments, they rarely cover modalities that facilitate true healing. Most covered therapies provide only symptomatic relief. Whatever care is recommended by your physician, your doctor should give you the total amount of out-of-pocket cost before beginning any treatment.
I hear that Chiropractic care takes forever. What’s involved with these long-term treatment plans I hear about?
Care plan lengths vary based on the patient’s needs. If the problem is recent, shorter treatment times may be expected. If the problem has persisted for years or even decades, a patient would expect a more involved treatment plan
