Finding Out Why You Have Headaches
So here’s how Arizona Chiropractic Center is going to treat your headaches. As you know, you’ve already been through the wringer as far as your headaches are concerned. You’ve tried drugs, you’ve probably tried all sorts of different therapies, and you still have ’em. So let’s show you what’s a little bit different and what you may not have thought about before.
After you’ve completed your paperwork in our comfortable reception area, our friendly receptionist will bring you back for the consultation. We begin with a detailed history and consultation to find out exactly what’s happened. Why do you have headaches? No one should have headaches. Headaches are not normal. They might be common, but they’re not normal.
Then we do a range of motion evaluation. Julie’s gonna demonstrate some of the range of motion that we’ll check to determine whether or not your neck is involved with creating your headaches. Then we’ll do some orthopedic exams. Have a seat here for me. We press down on the head and strain the joints. It sounds terrible, but it’s actually very comfortable and relaxing. If it hurts, we stop. We just go up to the point of discomfort and then we lift up. We find out, “Does that feel better?” and what’s involved with creating your headaches.
We’ll also do a postural examination. We’ve got an AI program that tells us in great detail how far forward your head is on your body. If your head’s too far forward, there’s a lot of strain at the base of your neck, and that creates headaches, among other things.
X-Rays and Your Findings
After these things happen, we’re gonna take some X-rays. Let me show you this X-ray machine right here. We will take a particular set of X-rays: a flexion, an extension, a neutral, and then an A-to-P open mouth.
Now, these X-rays are super important. I’ll tell you why. If you don’t get the right information, you won’t be able to treat the person correctly. We have to have the right data in order to take care of you and get to the underlying cause of your headaches.
We capture all this information, and at the end of this, we put it all together in a package of care. How do we address your actual problem? At the end of this visit, we reschedule you for your second appointment. This is when we go over all of your findings. We explain in great detail why you’re getting the headaches and what we’re gonna do about it. You don’t need to suffer.
Adjustments and Soft Tissue Work
So let’s show you. The first thing that we do is the adjustment. There are different ways that you can get adjusted in chiropractic. When people have headaches, we have a particular focus, typically at the base of the skull.
Dr. Krutsinger is going to demonstrate some soft tissue work. Sometimes it’s as simple as just having a gentle range of motion put into the musculature at the base of the neck. There’s also an ArthroStim adjustment that he’ll demonstrate, which is a very gentle adjustment. You can see how easy that is. It’s very simple. It’s soft, and there’s no popping or cracking.
Now, sometimes people don’t like that popping and cracking. It makes ’em a little nervous. There’s a very specific way of adjusting people’s necks, and that’s what we do. We don’t randomly guess. There’s no just popping. We look on someone’s X-rays and see how they’re misaligned. Based on that misalignment, we’re going to realign their spines to get the pressure off of the nerves. We feel how the joints are moving on each visit, and then we’re able to gently adjust the neck in the proper direction. That’s wonderful.
Other Therapies We May Recommend
Other therapies that we may recommend for you include something called spinal decompression therapy. It may or may not be utilized for you. We don’t really know at this point. We need to see what’s happening that’s causing your headaches, but that’s a very good therapy. It takes pressure off spinal discs and nerves.
There’s another therapy here called shockwave. It’s another electrical—it’s a sound wave. That sound wave goes into those tight muscles and helps free them up. This attachment is a critical part of treating headaches because it softens the impulse of this machine, and it’s specifically made for your upper neck, headaches, and neck pain. So, a fantastic attachment.
The last two therapies that we may utilize for your headaches are the FX 405, which is a very specific laser that has a brain and cerebellum setting on it, and pulsed electromagnetic field therapy.
You can see here there is a very specific setting that we would utilize. As you can see on our model here, this therapy is going right through the center of his head. It’s also getting the occiput at the base of his skull and his frontal lobe up front. It’s comfortable, it’s very calming, very relaxing, and it helps heal you from the inside out. Energy production, ATP production—it’s a wonderful laser. It does not produce any heat. There’s no heat production. That’s completely safe to use on brains, obviously.
The last therapy that we may recommend for you, depending on what the cause of your headaches is, is pulsed electromagnetic field therapy. There’s an electromagnetic field that comes out of here, and we may apply it to the back of the neck, the upper back, sometimes the front. It really depends on you and what’s causing your problems. There’s a loop that we can put over the head. It depends on what is happening, again, with your particular problems.
